Best Pokemon Champions Teams for Ranked 2026

The best Pokemon Champions teams in Regulation M-A are Sun offense, Trick Room Rain, Sneasler Unburden Offense, and Perish Trap — all four archetypes have won or reached finals at official regional events. This guide covers six complete builds drawn from the 2026 Indianapolis Regional Championships (1,013 players), the 2026 Turin VGC Special (941 players), and SpearPillar Champions Tour #6, with every Pokemon’s item, ability, and moves listed exactly as tournament players ran them. Use these as starting points, not static blueprints — the meta shifts every patch and M-B arrives June 17.

What Format Are We Playing? Regulation M-A Explained

Before copying a team, confirm the format. Regulation M-A is the active ruleset from April 8 to June 17, 2026, covering Ranked Battle Seasons M-1 and M-2. Key rules:

  • All Pokemon set to Level 50
  • Doubles format: bring 4–6 Pokemon, pick 4 to battle (90-second team preview, 60-second turn timer)
  • 186 species and 59 Mega Evolution forms permitted
  • Legendary and Paradox Pokemon are banned
  • Mega Evolutions that activate only require the Mega Stone item — no Z-Moves

Regulation M-B launches June 17, 2026, when Pokemon Champions arrives on iOS and Android. Mega Raichu X and Y (distributed as a mobile launch bonus) become legal for competitive play at that time. This guide focuses on M-A teams; a dedicated M-B update will follow at launch.

Meta Snapshot: Most-Used Pokemon in Reg M-A

These are the core threats to build around or plan against. Usage numbers are from Pikalytics tournament data and championslab.xyz.

PokemonUsage RateWin RatePrimary Role
Garchomp~40–43%~54%Scarf attacker, speed control
Archaludon~17%~51%Rain sweeper, pivot
Kingambit~40–41%~55%Late-game cleaner
Charizard (Mega Y)~30–32%~54%Sun setter, spread damage
IncineroarTop 5~53%Support, lead utility
Sneasler~28–29%~51%Speed sweeper, Fake Out pivot
Sinistcha~20%~52%Trick Room setter, redirection

Usage figures are per Pikalytics tournament data and may shift as more events are tracked. Incineroar sat at over 50% presence during the game’s launch weekend, making it the single most-used Pokemon in early Regulation M-A play.

Understanding this table tells you two things: Garchomp and Kingambit are the format’s primary damage dealers, and Incineroar sits behind almost every team as a defensive backbone. Any team you build needs a plan for all three.

Team 1 — Arsal Puri’s Indianapolis Winner (Sun + Trick Room)

Result: 1st place, 2026 Indianapolis Regional (11-1 Swiss, 15-1 overall). Arsal Puri (uncharted) defeated Wolfe Glick 2-0 in Grand Finals.

This team blends two game plans: an aggressive sun offense with Mega Charizard Y + Venusaur and a surprise Trick Room mode using Sinistcha and Mega Floette-Eternal. Most opponents prepare for one; the ability to pivot between both mid-series is what took Indianapolis.

Floette-Eternal [Mega]FloettiteFairy AuraMoonblast / Dazzling Gleam / Calm Mind / Protect
SinistchaKasib BerryHospitalityMatcha Gotcha / Rage Powder / Trick Room / Protect

How to pilot it: Lead Charizard + Venusaur into sun matchups. Venusaur’s Chlorophyll doubles its Speed under sun; Sleep Powder into a threat, then spam Sludge Bomb. Incineroar leads instead when you need to slow the opponent’s opener with Fake Out + Intimidate. Bring Sinistcha + Floette in games where you want Trick Room — Sinistcha sets it while Rage Powder redirects attacks, and Mega Floette’s Fairy Aura boosts its own Moonblast and Dazzling Gleam so it can freely Calm Mind before unloading a boosted Moonblast.

Counters to prepare for: Unaware users ignore Calm Mind boosts. Rain teams outspeed Venusaur if they get Tailwind up before you get sun. Wide Guard blocks Heat Wave spread.

Team 2 — Wolfe Glick’s 2nd Place Sand + Trick Room

Result: 2nd place, 2026 Indianapolis Regional (14-2 overall). Wolfe Glick brought this team to Grand Finals at the first Western Pokemon Champions Regional.

This team gained attention for its use of Mega Steelix, a Pokemon with near-zero prior competitive presence. The bet paid off: Mega Steelix’s Sand Force ability turns High Horsepower into a sandstorm-boosted OHKO threat that most opponents never prepared checks for.

Rotom-WashLeftoversLevitateWill-O-Wisp / Thunderbolt / Hydro Pump / Light Screen
Tyranitar-MegaTyranitariteSand StreamProtect / Rock Slide / Knock Off / Dragon Dance

How to pilot it: Mega Tyranitar sets sand automatically on switch-in. Mega Steelix’s Sand Force turns High Horsepower into a 195 base power Earthquake-equivalent that hits Steel-resistant targets where Earthquake cannot. Sinistcha sets Trick Room so these slow heavyweights move first. Sneasler leads aggressively when you don’t need TR — the White Herb + Unburden combo (see FAQ below) lets it speed-sweep before Trick Room even comes up. Talonflame with Gale Wings provides unconditional priority Brave Bird to pick off weakened targets.

Counters to prepare for: Weather wars — any opposing rain or sun team will contest Tyranitar’s sand. Ground-immune Steel-types wall Mega Steelix outside of Heavy Slam.

Team 3 — Marco Hemantha Kaludura Silva’s Turin Winner (Perish Trap Offense)

Result: 1st place, 2026 Turin Pokemon VGC Special (941 players, 10-2 Swiss record).

This is the most technically demanding team in this guide. Mega Gengar’s Shadow Tag ability prevents opponent Pokemon from switching out. Combined with Kommo-o’s Soundproof immunity (Soundproof blocks Perish Song), Gengar can Perish Song the entire opposing field while your own Kommo-o is safe from the countdown.

Gengar-MegaGengariteShadow TagShadow Ball / Perish Song / Disable / Protect
Kommo-oLeftoversSoundproofClanging Scales / Aura Sphere / Clangorous Soul / Protect

How to pilot it: Gengar uses Perish Song while Shadow Tag traps both opponents. Disable on the following turn locks the move they just used, stalling for Perish Song turns. Kommo-o is your non-trapped teammate — it survives the song and uses Clangorous Soul to set up while opponents are dying. Sneasler, Kingambit, and Mega Floette form a second offensive mode for matchups where Perish Trap is harder to execute (spread Fairy immunity, Soundproof users).

Counters: Any Soundproof Pokemon shuts down Perish Song. Shadow Tag does not trap Ghost-types (they can still switch). Disable wears off, so prediction matters.

Team 4 — TingusThePingus’s SpearPillar #6 Winner (Aerodactyl Offense)

Result: 1st place, SpearPillar Champions Tour #6 (Reg M-A, 12-1 record).

This team runs Mega Aerodactyl as its speed-control anchor — Tough Claws boosts its contact moves, and Tailwind gives the entire team two turns of doubled Speed without relying on weather.

SneaslerWhite HerbUnburdenClose Combat / Dire Claw / Fake Out / Protect
SylveonFairy FeatherPixilateHyper Voice / Quick Attack / Hyper Beam / Detect

How to pilot it: Mega Aerodactyl sets Tailwind on turn one, then rocks the field with spread Rock Slide. Scarf Garchomp is already fast; under Tailwind it outruns virtually everything cleanly. Mega Froslass summons Snow with Snow Warning on Mega Evolution — Blizzard never misses in Snow — and Aurora Veil halves damage to your whole team for five turns. Sylveon with Pixilate turns Hyper Voice into a spread Fairy-type nuke that hits through sound-blocking effects.

Counters: Tailwind is time-limited (four turns). Opponents who deny Tailwind with speed control of their own can reverse the dynamic quickly.

Team 5 — ARegularGuy’s Maddo’s Cup #8 Winner (Sun + Kingambit Cleaner)

Result: 1st place, Maddo’s Cup #8 (Reg M-A, 13-0 record, undefeated).

A clean Sun team with a Kingambit late-game cleanup mode and Mega Dragonite as a secondary wincon. Whimsicott provides Prankster Tailwind — priority support that does not rely on leading into a specific matchup.

Dragonite-MegaDragoniniteMultiscaleDragon Pulse / Heat Wave / Thunderbolt / Protect
KingambitChople BerryDefiantKowtow Cleave / Sucker Punch / Iron Head / Low Kick

How to pilot it: Charizard sets sun and heat-waves spreads the field. Whimsicott’s Prankster Tailwind moves before the opponent acts regardless of Speed — it is guaranteed turn-one speed control. Kingambit cleans endgame with Sucker Punch priority and Kowtow Cleave ignoring evasion boosts. Mega Dragonite’s Multiscale ability halves damage when at full HP, making it extremely hard to one-shot as a secondary sweeper. Roseli Berry on Garchomp blocks Fairy hits so it can safely use Earthquake adjacent to Sylveon.

Team 6 — Game8 Sun Team (Starter-Friendly Build)

This team is attributed to the Game8 team (referencing Aaron Zheng’s analysis) as a recommended beginner-accessible Sun build for Pokemon Champions. All six Pokemon are straightforward to use and appear across multiple tournament formats.

PokemonItemAbilityMoves

Why it works for new players: Every role on this team is readable. Charizard attacks, Venusaur sleeps things, Garchomp and Sneasler deal damage, Incineroar provides support, and Rotom-Wash covers Water and Electric attacks. Rotom-Wash is immune to Earthquake (Levitate) so you can safely use Garchomp’s Earthquake with Rotom on the field. Will-O-Wisp turns physical attackers into non-threats.

What Changes in Regulation M-B (June 17)

Starting June 17, Regulation M-B and Ranked Battle Season M-3 begin. The most important addition is Mega Raichu X and Y, distributed as the mobile launch bonus (available June 17 – September 1, 2026):

  • Mega Raichu X: Electric Surge ability — sets Electric Terrain on entry, which prevents sleep and powers up Electric moves for five turns
  • Mega Raichu Y: No Guard ability — all moves used by or against Mega Raichu Y have perfect accuracy, including Thunder and Thunder Wave

All six teams above will remain legal. Expect Mega Raichu to appear immediately on ladder given it is a free gift — build your own and learn its strengths, or prepare hard answers before M-B begins.

The full Pokemon Champions mobile launch details are in the Mobile Launch Guide.

FAQ

What are the best teams in Pokemon Champions right now? In Regulation M-A the strongest teams are Sun (Mega Charizard Y + Venusaur), Trick Room Rain, Sneasler Offense, Perish Trap (Mega Gengar + Kommo-o), and sand-based builds around Mega Steelix or Mega Tyranitar. All six options here are tournament-proven from Indianapolis, Turin, and SpearPillar Champion Tour events.

Which team won the 2026 Indianapolis Regional? Arsal Puri (uncharted) won with an 11-1 Swiss record. His team was Mega Charizard Y, Venusaur, Scarf Garchomp, Incineroar, Mega Floette-Eternal, and Sinistcha — a Sun team with a surprise Trick Room mode built in.

Is Incineroar still good in Pokemon Champions? Yes. Incineroar is consistently among the most-used Pokemon in Regulation M-A. Its Fake Out + Intimidate + Parting Shot utility is so broadly useful that almost every team archetype wants one slot.

What does Regulation M-A mean? Regulation M-A is the active competitive format (April 8 – June 17, 2026). It allows 186 species and 59 Mega Evolutions, bans Legendary and Paradox Pokemon, and sets all Pokemon to Level 50 in Doubles.

When does Regulation M-B start? Regulation M-B begins June 17, 2026, the same day Pokemon Champions launches on iOS and Android. Mega Raichu X and Y become legal for competitive play in M-B.

What is the Sneasler White Herb trick? Sneasler leads into an opposing Incineroar. When Intimidate drops Sneasler’s Attack stat, the White Herb activates and restores it, which triggers the Unburden ability and doubles Sneasler’s Speed for the rest of the match. It then sweeps with Dire Claw and Close Combat.

Is Mega Gengar banned in Pokemon Champions? No. Mega Gengar is legal in Regulation M-A. Its Shadow Tag ability traps opponents, and combined with Perish Song it forms the core of Perish Trap teams. Kommo-o (Soundproof) is paired with it because Soundproof blocks Perish Song, keeping Kommo-o safe from the countdown.

What is Archaludon’s role on rain teams? Archaludon with Stamina fires Electro Shot every turn under rain without the two-turn charge. Each use also grants +1 Special Attack. It is the primary damage engine on most rain builds, per Pikalytics tournament data.

Can I use these teams on mobile when Pokemon Champions launches June 17? Yes. Cross-platform play and save data sync are supported via Nintendo Account, so any team you build on Switch is immediately available when you log into the mobile version.

Where can I find speed tiers for these Pokemon? See our Pokemon Champions Speed Tiers reference for full base Speed stats, common Choice Scarf benchmarks, and Tailwind calculations relevant to every team above.
